In progress. Our first Virtual Reality (VR) prototype is being developed to explore the opportunities for embodied understanding of 3D information space. The network graph is perhaps the primary visualization of our time, but has limited utility as a tool of discovery. Leveraging the 3rd dimension to represent time, we have extruded our nodes from points into (time)lines that are linked to one another at specific and meaningful moments in time.
Our first immersive 3D time-based network visualization works with content from The New Historia, a collection of historical women and their work based on an updated version of Mary Hays’ Female Biography collection (first published in 1803, and updated in 2014). The information space is built dynamically from a Google Sheet of nodes (people and work) and their relationships.
This project is seeking research support. Our ambition is to build a collection of collaborative and dynamic spaces of knowledge.
